Constitution Place, Canberra, ACT
Inspired by Walter Burley Griffin’s design for Canberra, Constitution Place is flourishing as Canberra’s newest and most attractive urban precinct. It comprises a vibrant 12 level building with commercial offices, government departments, a hotel and a varied dining precinct.
Project Design Brief
During a recent refurbishment, the pedestrian pavement adjacent to the building was upgraded. This required the installation of new access points for the underground services. Designers opted for a hexagon brick walkway pattern for the pavement and required it to be visually continuous over the cable pits. Therefore all access covers needed discreet edging and be recessed to enable pavers to be bedded. In addition to this, covers needed to be load rated for light vehicular traffic.
ACO's Solution
- Rhinocast® 4-part multi-part cover with 40mm deep stainless steel decorative edge.
- ACO Technical Services provided the structural engineer with a detailed rebate and beam drawing for the 4-part access cover to be incorporated into the pavement over the cable pit.
Benefits
- Stainless steel decorative edge is 40mm deep and enables pavers to be bedded into the multi-part cover to maintain pavement aesthetics
- Class B covers withstand light duty service vehicles
