Banksia Apartments, Melbourne VIC
Imitating the curves and peaks of the Banksia flower, the Banksia Apartment building in Melbourne’s Docklands precinct has a unique circular floorplan allowing apartments to view either the Yarra River, Melbourne’s CBD or nearby NewQuay Central Park. The latter being a meeting point for local residents in front of the building’s iconic façade.
Project Design Brief
The pavement design continues the theme of the bluestone paving used on previous stages of the New Quay development in Melbourne’s Docklands precinct. New cable infrastructure for lighting, communications, power and CCTV had to run beneath the walking surface requiring secure access points for maintenance. Designers wanted to ensure the visual continuity of the paving would not be broken up by the presence of service pits.
