Keira Street, Wollongong, NSW
Keira Street has been transformed into an impressive public domain between Crown and South Street in Wollongong’s city centre. The aim of the project was to promote social activity, increase economic growth and improve pedestrian safety.
The improvements included new lighting for night activities, high quality street furniture and artwork. The footpaths were widened from two metres up to four metres on both sides of the street to provide areas for alfresco dining.
Project Design Brief
The streetscape required a major upgrade to the services infrastructure to accommodate the new lighting, communications and traffic signal installation. The widened pavements were required to be flat for pedestrian safety with quality paving. Designers wanted to ensure that the new and existing services would be discreetly integrated ensuring continuity of the pavement design.
