Ringwood Train and Bus Interchange, Melbourne, VIC
Ringwood railway station is a ‘premium’ station on Melbourne’s rail network and was recently upgraded to include a new bus interchange. The project costing $66 million includes a raised pedestrian crossing between the bus interchange and railway station entrance, new concourse, new passenger amenities, lifts, escalators, lighting, CCTV and renovation to the historic heritage station buildings. The upgrade also links to the nearby Eastland Shopping Centre and will improve safety and access for all pedestrians.
Project Design Brief
The designers wanted to maintain the historic buildings and ensure the new structures would compliment the heritage of the site. They also wanted to ensure a continuity of pavement surfaces. The electrical and communication services needed to be enclosed with discreet access covers in harmony with the new aesthetics of the station concourse.
