The Station, Newcastle, NSW
Built in 1878, the old Newcastle Train Station has been transformed into the city’s most unique destination. The project was a significant component of the Revitalising Newcastle program which also included an important state heritage listed building in the city’s east end.
Project Design Brief
Designers opted for paved open spaces to be visually harmonious with the local area. The upgrade also required several underground cable routes to be laid for essential lighting, communications, power and CCTV. Cable routes would have to be accessible though visually discreet secure covers.
ACO's Solution
- Pavermate® recessed steel access covers
Benefits
- The 2mm frame edge is visually discreet within the pavement surface.
- The cover’s recessed deep pan easily accommodated the bluestone pavers without having to reduce the paver height.
- The cover is secured with four M16 locking bolts.
Other ACO products used:
- Cable pits (ACO Cablemate®)
- Trench drains (ACO Drain)
